Summerstown

On the boundary between the London Borough of Merton and the London Borough of Wandsworth, Summerstown is a tiny district in South West London.

To the north of Wimbledon and Colliers Wood, the humble London suburb lies to the west of Tooting town centre and just south of Earlsfield, providing fantastic transport links across the capital.

With a small yet diverse parade of shops and local businesses, from gastropubs and antique shops to dog groomers and small convenience stores, Summerstown has all of the amenities you could need. If you prefer to head into Central London for even more retail and culinary delights, Summerstown is conveniently just an 8-minute walk from Earlsfield station.

Overlooked for a long time in favour of Wimbledon and Clapham, Summerstown's close proximity to Earlsfield provides residents with an even wider array of restaurants and bars as well as open green spaces in Garratt Park, making the area a popular choice with young families.

Historically, Summerstown comprised of light industrial trade and residential areas. Trades of silk weaving and wig making in the area date back as far as 1631. As the population of the area grew considerably during the mid 1800’s, many new residential buildings were constructed. As a result, Victorian terraces largely occupy the area, with some kept as private dwellings and others converted into apartments.

Shopping and Leisure

The area has an assortment of restaurants and eateries to cater to almost every taste and cuisine imaginable. Pay a visit to Garratt Lane to indulge in wood fired artisan pizzas at Burrata or stop by the charming Earlsfield Gastropub to enjoy a meal and a drink or two in a spacious converted train ticket office. On your way to Earlsfield station, you will find all the familiar coffee shops such as Costa Coffee and Caffè Nero. If you would like to try something different, DeRosier Chocolate and Coffee offer handmade chocolates and locally roasted coffee that could well become your favourite.

Under a 10-minute stroll from Earlsfield high street, you will find a range of supermarkets, including Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose. Undergoing recent regeneration, the Southside Shopping Centre on Garratt Lane offers a variety of modern, high street retailers as well as fashion boutiques, beauty salons, newsagents and a large cinema. Here, you will also find Nuffield Health Centre offering a great range of exercise facilities and Flip Out – London’s largest trampoline park for burning off some excess energy.
